Uranus in Gemini, July 7, 2025
Uranus is changing signs on Monday, July 7, 2025, an event that occurs only once about every 7 years. In fact, this planet is often blamed for the infamous “7-year itch,” when people get the urge to completely change their lives or disrupt their relationships because they suddenly just feel completely different than they felt before. Uranus is leaving earthy, practical Taurus and entering Gemini, the sign of intellectual curiosity, communication, adaptability, and versatility.
In astrology, the outer planet Uranus represents the collective unconscious. It symbolizes individuality, rebellion, sudden changes, sparks of genius, innovation, originality, absolute freedom, unpredictability, and eccentricity, but like the social-reform sign Aquarius that it rules, it represents humanity as a collective group and tends to shape us on a broader scale and influence cultural movements and societal shifts.
Uranus is associated with electricity, technology, higher consciousness, spiritual awakening, divination, and astrology. It can bring out zany, mad-scientist, rebellious, evasive, eccentric, and just plain weirdness in people. Awakenings and epiphanies can occur during Uranus transits. It is future-minded and carries – like electricity – a certain shock quality to it.
There is inherent creativity and willpower involved with Uranus because it carries the quality of looking ahead, envisioning, and innovating a better way for things to be and then charging ahead impetuously to do it. Where it can be disruptive is when it instigates changes that others are not yet ready for, which is where it gets its “shock and surprise” reputation from. And in Taurus, where it has been for the last 7 years, change is very hard to deal with – Taurus prefers stability and predictability and changes very slowly, if at all – in fact, in Taurus, Uranus is in its “fall” which means that it is not comfortable in this sign. The changes in the world that have occurred during its transit through Taurus have felt more disruptive and difficult to accept than usual.
In Gemini, the sign of the mind, we can expect radical innovation in Gemini-themed issues, like communication, travel, science, art, music, and information technology. It could spark futuristic scientific innovations, improve the way we connect with one another, and forge new ways to solve problems that have been lackluster while we plodded along with the same-old, same-old in Taurus.
Much is being said about Uranus in Gemini being “the sign Uranus was in every time the USA has gone to war,” and how that is because in the natal chart of the USA, Uranus was in Gemini (using the July 4, 1776 date as the birth date of the nation – which I disagree with and am writing up a gigantic piece about July 4th being the conception date, but not the actual birth date, which should be nearly six years later, and how the idea of the nation and what it actually became are similar on the surface, but overall vastly different in practice… but more on that soon!). There is a strong correlation for this, but I will argue that it is NOT because of the nation’s Uranus return occurring during these tumultuous years, but because transit Uranus is contacting the nation’s natal MARS in Gemini!
In both the traditional USA Chart for July 4th and for the chart I’m working on for April 9, 1784, Mars is in Gemini. Interestingly, these charts’ Mars are conjunct at nearly the same degree of Gemini! When transit Uranus makes contact with natal Mars in any chart, you can expect tempers to flare and conflict to break out in surprising and often extremely disruptive ways. It is like dumping napalm on a wildfire.
Also occurring during these 7-year long transits of Mercurial Gemini hosting genius-madman Uranus are wild, innovative, and genius ideas taking shape in external reality and huge leaps in both technological and societal advances. If Gemini represents anything, it’s the childlike curiosity, glittering, Peter-Pan-like openness to wonder and experience, and both the enjoyment of thought and the sharing of ideas with others. Fun and variety of nonstop, exciting ideas are the hallmarks of Gemini.
Because of the contact with the nation’s Mars, yes, we should expect and prepare for conflict. But we should also expect and prepare for unparalleled innovation and a new age of genius technological advances that will change not only the world but the collective consciousness. With the trine to Pluto in early Aquarius (power to the people) and a sextile to Saturn and Neptune in early Aries, there will no doubt be a renovation of the ethos into a more sparkling intellectual zeitgeist that inspires us to wake up from our collective slumber and change the world for the better in ways that benefits all of humanity.
