Happy 250th Birthday, USA… Or Is It? (Part 2)
The Deeper Analysis of the April 9, 1784 USA Chart
As mentioned in my “Happy 250th Birthday, USA… Or Is It? (Part 1)” article, this is a deeper look into the USA’s April 9, 1784 chart so that we may understand how all the pieces of this USA astrological puzzle fit together.
In this article, I will describe the USA’s “Big Three” (Sun, Moon, Ascendant), the Personal Planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars), the Interpersonal Planets (Jupiter, Saturn), and the Outer Planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Plut0).
We have been Cinderella’s Stepsisters trying to force our big, ugly feet into the glass slipper of the July 4th chart for a long time. It simply does not fit.
We can’t heal until we see ourselves clearly. And this analysis is meant to shine a mirror onto the shadow self of America. This is Shadow Work. Buckle up.
Chart Interpretation
Dominant Element = Fire (30.8%)
Dominant Mode = Cardinal (50.8%)
Dominant Planet = Mars
Dominant/Signature Sign = Aries
The Ascendant in Aries *
Chart Ruler= Mars (18° 11’ Gemini, in the 3rd House, and Out of Bounds)
The Ascendant in the masculine fire sign Aries indicates an enterprising, enthusiastic, assertive, and initiative-sparking personality. The native is bold, frank, headstrong, pioneering, and inclined toward self-reliance and independence. They like to be first. They like to be in charge. They do not like to be told what to do or how to do it (they definitely don’t read the instructions). They tend to burst onto the scene in a bold fashion everywhere they go. Others can’t help but notice them, and they could care less what others make of them. They tend toward rashness, impatience, impulsivity, competition, and combativeness in their interactions with others. They are usually keen to start projects, and possess wonderful amounts of energy to get both people and things motivated and moving, but tend to leave the details of finishing the projects up to others. They get bored easily and may be prone to taking too many risks that put themselves and others in danger. They value challenges, and their bold temperament tends to get them through the door, at least. But when faced with consequences for their behavior, they may lash out in anger and prefer to choose violence over calm deliberation, compromise, and cooperative diplomacy.
Mars in Gemini and Out of Bounds as the chart ruler (Mars is the ruler of Aries) expresses this fiery Aries energy with a war of words more often than not, though it carries wild unpredictability in this signature and one can never tell whether this individual will act rationally or create chaos with a side of impenetrable wordsmithing and legalese.
There is a keen intelligence in this signature. New ideas will be generated through this personality that the world has never conceived of before. Leaps and bounds can be made in the realm of communications, law, and politics. The problems may lie in how the Ascendant and its ruler, Mars, are aspected, and what other planetary influences may sway it toward unconscious, compulsive behaviors that keep it locked in its immaturity instead of evolving into a trusted, inspiring leader.
This placement aligns with the USA bursting onto the scene as an upstart democratic nation comprised of rebels and free-thinkers and fighting for their independence from Mother England and the crown. Continuing through the centuries as a warmongering (210 years at war out of 250 years as a nation) entrepreneur that has remade the world through its example, for good and bad. The USA can easily claim fearless self-reliance and a pioneering spirit as its calling card.
The Sun in Aries
Sun in the 1st house
This native exudes confidence, bravado, and self-assuredness effortlessly. They are daring, brave, independent, and fearless, often going where angels fear to tread. They can also sometimes be combative, competitive, and brash, and often insist on being both first in line and the best in the group. They demand preferment, which often sparks resentment from others. Though they may have a quick and hot temper, they easily shake off defeats and disappointments and begin almost immediately preparing for the next challenge, battle, or competition.
They are youthful, energetic, and exciting to be around because they bring the exhilarating zing of exploratory youth with them wherever they go. They bravely and brazenly chart the path through the unknown for others to follow. They are assertive and confident and are quick to fight in defense of what they feel they are entitled to. Their high energy and independence inspires others to take up their own adventures in their lives. They make a great leader as they mature, evolving from a fighter to a defender.
They require absolute freedom, and they demand the right to make their own way in the world. They balk at restrictions on their behavior. They are driven by their own personal interests and are not concerned with what others are doing whatsoever. This tends to be perceived as selfishness at times, as they can be somewhat allergic to the consideration of others.
They learn through experiences, and they are determined to assert their right to their own triumphs and mistakes. They have a lot of energy to start things – anything that captures their interest or inspires them, and they are quick on the draw – but they often drop the ball as soon as they become bored, which unfortunately does not take very long as they are always seeking the next thrill. They are enthralled by anything new and untried.
This placement aligns with the USA’s relative youth and newness on the world stage in a leadership role, coupled with its bravado, arrogance, and aggression it often employs as it considers itself “the best” It enjoys, as well as insists on, its preferential treatment. As has been stated many times in this article, it has been in a state of war for 210 out of the mere 250 years of its existence. It is a Mars-ruled, martial state. It came into this world fighting for its independence, and has been fighting ever since. It has inspired the world to also fight for independence, liberty, democracy, and justice, while also sparking resentment over its selfish, offensive nature and its need to bask in the never-ending limelight.

A BOXER IS ENTERING THE RING
This Symbol shows that there may be a temptation to take on issues, even to fight, but it needs to be with dignity and regulation. You may feel a need, or the urge, to step up to the plate and take something or someone on. There are rules to follow and often others will end up being the judge of the final outcome. Make sure you possess the skills and training to defend what you believe. Remember that sometimes you need to back off if you’re not winning a contest. Question: are you more on the attack or on the defense?
Conscious expression: Physical or psychological self-assertion and determination. Fighting for one’s emotional, psychological or physical space. Being a contender. Entering the ring or the arena.
Unconscious expression: Using power to dominate people or those who challenge you. Wanting to knock people out. Storming in and taking over. Looking for combat. Being combative.
Moon in Sagittarius
Moon Out of Bounds and in the 8th House
This placement indicates a deep and often irrational need for freedom, adventure, independence, exploration, and a strong resistance to being tethered to one place or one set of rules. The out of bounds (OOB) element of this Moon placement exaggerates that, and the placement in the 8th house endows it with an inherent mistrust of anything or anyone that threatens its freedom and a need to be in complete control of one’s emotional experience.
This Moon also carries a fearlessness in its emotional expression, and also gifts the native with intelligence, humor, and an often loud and proud sense of self in the public sphere - this is a born extrovert, though with the 8th house placement and OOB status, it may require periods of introversion or social withdrawal to recoup a spent social battery.
A strong desire to sync up with a higher wisdom or power is part of the Sagittarius Moon’s makeup as well. Faith, religion, and seeking deeper meaning in life is profoundly important to this native.
This placement aligns perfectly with this viewpoint of Europeans on how easy it is to spot Americans abroad: 23 Telltale Signs Someone Is American, According To Europeans. It also aligns with the exploration of and expansion into the American West, the Lewis and Clark Expeditions, the Oregon Trail wagon train settlers, the exploration of space and the Moon, as well as the exuberance, enthusiasm, and good humor generally associated with the American ethos. It also aligns with the USA’s need to expand the mind, ever reaching for higher knowledge and seeking meaning often through religion and faith-based groups.
Mercury in Aries
Mercury in the 1st house
This placement indicates strong single-mindedness and bold, brash speech that may at times be expressed aggressively or forcefully. This native is an independent thinker and has a tendency to jump to conclusions rather than take their time deliberating or thinking before they speak. Curiosity is strong with this native, as is a desire to learn and network with others, always looking for ways to advance their position and contacts. An agile mind is indicated though it is combined with willfulness and impulsivity.
This placement aligns with the USA’s Ascendant and Sun expressions (see above) - a triple Aries, though it could be called a quadruple Aries since the Sun and Mercury reside in the 1st house, which is Aries’ house. Its Mercury and Mars are in mutual reception in this chart — meaning the signs Aries and Gemini have swapped their rulers in the other’s sign, so they feed off of one another, magnifying the effect. See the Mars in Gemini entry below for more on this.
Venus in Pisces
Venus in the 12th house
Venus is exalted in Pisces, meaning it expresses the higher energies of the Venusian vibe. A love of beauty, imagination, creativity, dance, music, art, theater, and film is featured with this placement, as are fantasy and dreaming. Rose-colored glasses fit this Venus to a T, and over time they grow to understand that the way they view the world is a reflection of their own inner beauty. There is a distinct urge to disappear into or merge with a beautiful dreamy ideal with sublime spiritual themes with this Venus — so much so that wild abandon into the unknown can easily veer into pure escapism and/or addiction.
This placement aligns with the formation of Hollywood, the motion picture industry, the propensity toward celebrity worship, the development of rock-and-roll and jazz music, MTV, hip-hop dance, tap dancing, the abstract expressionism painting style, etc.
Mars in Gemini
Mars Out of Bounds and in the 3rd House
This placement indicates a strong tendency to initiate ideas, gather and spread information, and to enjoy sparking debates and arguments with ample wit and charm. There is zero hesitation for this native when it comes to speaking their mind. Clashes with others, especially siblings, neighbors, or close friends and allies, is likely due to their strong yet slippery approach to communication. They are likely to contradict themselves and it may be difficult for others to get a straight answer out of them as they tend to pivot to Devil’s Advocate stances just for the sake of mental stimulation (on their part). They staunchly maintain the right to keep an open mind and thus often change their stance on any given topic and often at a moment’s notice. There is an exaggerated element of innovation in communications with this placement, and technologies the world has never seen before could be born from this elevated and active native’s mind. There is heightened trickster energy with this placement.
This placement aligns with the USA’s development of the following world-changing technologies: the electric light, the telephone, the airplane, the transistor, the internet, the microwave, the nuclear submarine, the movie camera, the assembly line, the refrigerator, air conditioning, microchips, lasers, bar codes, the supermarket, the Automated Teller Machine, Paypal, etc. It also aligns with the nation’s propensity to be at war - 210 years at war out of 250 years as a nation.
*It must be said that the common belief that the USA always goes to war whenever Uranus is in Gemini (based on the July 4th chart’s placement of both Mars and Uranus in Gemini) - but it is my belief that, while that may be true, it is because transit Uranus entering Gemini begins to conjunct the natal Mars in Gemini — IN BOTH CHARTS — which is a classic spark for conflict or war (transit Uranus conjunct natal Mars) in any chart.
Jupiter in Aquarius
Jupiter (29° / anaretic) in 12th house
This native is a seeker of new and inspired ways to see life and its meaning. They have an almost prophetic gift for intuiting the next societal trends and are often on the leading edge of technological, scientific, or metaphysical expansions. They are always reaching toward the next new horizon and have the tendency to leave things to chance due to an unshakable faith in the notion that things will always work out; they possess infectious optimism and blind faith. They seem to be supernaturally protected from existential harm. Also indicated are potential zealotry, rigid doctrines, dogmatic extremism, Puritanism, fixed beliefs, strange or eccentric beliefs, black and white thinking (an inability to hold paradox), persecuting “others” while simultaneously grandstanding about “religious freedom for everyone,” and a hyper-focus on faith and belief as the “calling card of the people.” There is a strong spiritual manifestation energy that enables them to inspire others spiritually. They may be a pioneer in religious life, perhaps even creating a new approach to religion or a new religion (or religions) entirely. There is the potential to become combative about their religious beliefs, imposing them upon others in forceful ways. They may be viewed as strange for their beliefs.
This placement aligns with the Mayflower Pilgrims seeking religious freedom in Plymouth, Massachusetts and the televangelists and fundamental religious evangelicals of today, as well as the numerous religions and cults that were started in the USA, including Mormonism, Pentacostalism, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Scientology, The Satanic Temple, the People’s Temple, the Manson Family, the Children of God/Family International, Heaven’s Gate, and the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Saturn in Capricorn
Saturn in the 10th house
This native is hardworking, disciplined, ambitious, resilient, ruthless, and steadfast in their approach to reaching their goals, which much of the time is centered on generating money. In fact, their entire ethos could be said to be money-focused. There is a strong work ethic here, and a reputation for “living for work” and workaholism in general is featured. This is the placement for the authoritarian, the boss, the manager, the capitalist, the conservative, the responsible worker, the banker, the landowner, the employer, and the investor. Saturn is in domicile in Capricorn, and the 10th house is aligned with Capricorn and Saturn as the 10th sign, so this energy is magnified. This native likely insists on being the boss in all situations. Patriarchy, oligarchy, colonialism, capitalism, (slavery, fascism), and other hierarchical systems of “haves and have nots” are inherent in this type of intensely ambitious, yet extractive, mindset. He who gets to the top first and gets all the toys, wins. The rest will be put to work. There is a strong alignment with The Devil tarot card with this placement.
This placement aligns with the East India Company-backed settlers at Jamestown who came to America to extract resources for King James and the eventual Gilded Age robber barons, and leading to the billionaires and trillionaires of today. John D. Rockefeller, the world’s first billionaire, and an American who gained his extreme wealth through Standard Oil, had a Capricorn Midheaven/10th house. They say it’s the land of opportunity - it’s really the land of opportunists. The USA has become a giant corporation, run by capitalists, ruled by money and billionaires.
Uranus in Cancer
Uranus Out of Bounds and in the 4th House
Uranus here indicates disruptive changes in the home, in the childhood, and in the inner self. It can indicate a radical breaking free from the home of origin and traditional family ties, as well as the family unit itself undergoing a radical change during the native’s lifetime. Innovations in home styles, lifestyles, and unconventional family structures are featured. This native is original, independent, visionary, eccentric, and autonomous in the extreme. They have a quirky sense of humor and may be downright weird at times. They may suffer from mood or mental dysfunction or disorders; their sense of self may get routinely disrupted and shaken up. Their intuition is keenly strong but they may have a hard time differentiating between intuitive prompts and “voices in their heads.” They have a very strong desire for freedom and hate being tied down, though they seem to be irrevocably tied to the past and have an almost distorted sense of nostalgia and “the good old days.” They will be drawn to cutting edge, futuristic technologies or trends and may have an intuitive knack for anything related to IT or electronics. They uncannily seem to know what will be the “next big thing” while simultaneously keeping themselves attached to what feels familiar and safe.
This placement aligns with the propensity toward patriotism and nationalism that is prevalent in the USA. In particular the Tea Party movement, the Independent Party, and the MAGA movement. It is hard-wired into the “Small Town America” ethos where the internet, particularly social media, mixes strangely with farm-and-homestead-centered life, the “good old days,” unwavering Confederacy devotion, never leaving the continental United States, never owning a passport, and Walmart-as-a-destination mindsets despite other options and advances in technology or perspectives available.
Neptune in Libra
Neptune Retrograde and in the 7th House
This placement indicates a romantic and idealistic approach to partnerships that often ends in disillusionment due to inevitable reality checks. These partnerships can be more than romantic and can apply to business partnerships as well as with enemies or even in courts of law. Confusion, delusion, and evasion of reality can be prevalent, and the native can also develop an “addiction to love,” like codependency, or even be in love with the idea of love itself. It may be difficult for the native to accept that everyone is flawed and damaged and doing the best they can — even (and perhaps especially) themselves. They may hold a fantasy in their minds that they are the embodiment of the perfect example of a fair and loving human being, and yet that may be the furthest thing from the truth. They may have difficulty seeing themselves clearly and lucidly. They may project their flaws and shadow qualities onto their partners instead of owning them and being accountable for their behaviors and actions.
This placement aligns with the nation’s inability - as a whole - to see itself clearly (especially as this Neptune in Libra is opposite the nation’s Sun, Mercury, and Ascendant in Aries — more on that in the Aspects section of the series). There is a propensity for Americans to see themselves as good, kind, peaceful, even Christ-like, while conveniently ignoring the evil and malicious things done by the nation’s government, military, and corporations around the world in the name of money, extraction, and domination. There is a willful ignorance in the populace. The lifestyle of the average American consists of going to work, getting a paycheck, paying the bills, putting gas in the car, watching TV, going to bed, and waking up and doing it all over again in a sleepwalking fashion. Only approximately 45% to 50% of Americans have a valid passport, whereas most Europeans of all ages do. Many have never left the continent, or if they have, it was on a cruise ship to the Bahamas or the Caribbean. The majority of Americans see the world very myopically — they think the rest of the world is either just like the USA or wishes it was. They think everyone everywhere speaks English (or should), respects America, and aspires to be like America. They cannot see their own dependence on “the system,” and blindly call it “the best” despite its glaring faults and flaws compared to other countries’ way of caring for its citizens. They are brainwashed into believing it is “the good life.”
Pluto In Aquarius
Pluto Out of Bounds and in the 11th House
This placement indicates a deep-held belief that power belongs to the collective and the community as opposed to one personality (like a monarch). There is a profound need for societal and collective rebellion, rebirth, and transformation. This native believes power should be innovative, progressive, and used for promoting equality and the betterment of everyone. They prioritize collective power that is distributed equally and geared toward creating a better and more equitable world over self-centered power and aggrandizement. Political groups, activism, rebellion, evolution, and revolution are part of their regular vocabulary, and they will be drawn to positions of leadership within groups that deal with these themes. They are not afraid to fight for freedom, justice, and equality.
This placement aligns with the nation’s overall rebellious nature, but particularly with its entry into the world as a new nation born of rebellion against its mother country for its independence and autonomy. Pluto out of bounds (OOB) is an extreme case, and when this nation came to be, Pluto was OOB to the South, as it is now in 2026 as it begins its 250-year celebration (which, according to my calculations, will continue through 2034). According to Rosie Finn, author of the book Persephone’s Revolution: Pluto’s Path to the End of Empire, we have now entered Pluto’s final, ten-year sojourn (August 31, 2025, to November 14, 2035, to the South) into OOB territory for the next few thousand years, which heralds the mass awakening of humanity on an evolutionary scale that will displace the rule of tyrants, dictators, and parasitic plutocrats that is extracting from the people with compassionate, benevolent governance that is truly by the people and for the people. It will kick off a revolutionary time of mass awakening and rebirth of human consciousness. “History tells us that a ‘redemption, a revolution, a mass-awakening of consciousness becomes not only possible but likely’ in the time ahead.” (Rosie Finn). For what it’s worth, Pluto was OOB South from 1774-1795, during the American and French Revolutions (Pluto in Aquarius) and was OOB North during most of WWII, off and on from 1938-1953 (Pluto in Leo). See my article Pluto and Uranus: The Game Changers for more on this subject.
Aspect Listings
The placement of any planet or point is just the beginning, whereas the aspects that planet or point makes to other planets and points in the chart tell the story of how that planet will likely behave in the individual. See the lists below for planetary aspects; see the “Notable Placements and Aspects” section of this series for details on any important aspects in the chart. Often, it is within the aspect patterns that we find solutions to compulsive and detrimental behaviors that hold us back from becoming our highest, best selves.

A big factor in the nation’s shapeshifter persona is its Mars in Gemini, which is its chart ruler. A lot has been said in recent years in anticipation of the USA’s “Uranus Return” - which references the Sibley Chart (or Rudhyar Chart)’s Uranus in Gemini, and points to how every 84 years this “return” kicks off some sort of violence and war. Well, I’m here to argue that it is not because of the supposed Uranus Return that brings these events about, but because of Uranus coming into direct contact (conjunction) with the nation’s MARS in Gemini that lights the fuse of war and chaos together (Mars is the god of war, and Uranus is most definitely the chaos planet).
Mars in Gemini has two faces: one is bright, witty, a quick learner, adept with building and creating amazing new things; and the other is short-tempered, quick to react, and tends to be condescending and arrogant because it thinks it knows better than everyone else. There is a real Jekyll and Hyde component to this placement. Incredible intelligence is paired with haughty reactivity and a restless nature. It’s almost too fast for its own good.

FOOTNOTES:
As there is no way to prove what time King George signed the ratification on this date, we can determine both through rectification of this date with the already vetted chart of July 4, 1776, and with the likelihood of the signing taking place in London, England – 5 time zones ahead – sometime between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm local time, find the most likely “birth time” based on these circumstances and likely time. The time of 5:07 AM Annapolis time would coincide with 10:07 AM in London on that day. The country, however, was not born in London, as its physical “body” was located in the States. At the time of the signing, Annapolis was the capital of the United States of America.
